Live burn trailer for training firefighters. Maui's live burn trailer, which was purchased through a 2002 AFG Program grant, is providing firefighters in Hawaii with invaluable hands-on training experiences. With the trailer, Maui's rescuers practice firefighting skills in live fire-burning conditions as opposed to simulations and videotapes. The trailer, nicknamed Malama, also keeps the firefighters safer as they train because it provides a carefully controlled environment for the live burn, which can be shut down completely should the situation become too dangerous.
