From No Tools To New Tools - Thanks FIRE Act

Chief Wolf mentioned that the department’s rescue capability was virtually non-existent prior to the FIRE Act grant award. “We went from no tools, to new tools thanks to the FIRE Act,” he noted. The department went from practically no equipment to a full set of appropriate rescue tools. He mentioned that they would often have to wait quite awhile for such equipment to come from a neighboring community. One of the great improvements which came about as a result of these grant-funded items was in the area of confidence among the personnel. The chief mentioned that at any given time a person might have been wearing any one of the four different kinds of SCBA. Imagine the problems that a malfunction could have caused under those circumstances. “My firefighters have a great deal more confidence in their ability to get the job done now,” Chief Wolf added.
