Ensures Public Safety
When fire departments are properly prepared, staffed and equipped, our cities and towns are safer, better places to live.
More and more demands are being placed on local fire and emergency services departments. The kinds of incidents that they must respond to are more vast, varied and unpredictable than ever before. It’s critical that first responders have the training, equipment and support needed to protect their local communities.
FIRE Grants have funded these essential training programs, educating first responders about advanced technology and new techniques, and better preparing them to respond to natural and man-made disasters and other emergencies. They have also helped fund the purchase of equipment that helps fire and emergency service personnel better respond to incidents. And, they have enabled communities to hire more first responders.
Citizens are well aware that their local fire and emergency services are ultimately the first line of defense against any incident, whether fire, flood, natural disaster or terrorist event. With all of the publicity surrounding the government’s investments in homeland security, it's important that people continue to see improvements happening at the local level.
When citizens read in the paper, hear from neighbors or otherwise learn that FIRE Grants have helped fund these important local investments, not only do they feel more safe -- they are more safe.
